My name is Virginia (Ginger) Smith. I am currently a first-year computer science PhD student in the EECS Department at the University of California, Berkeley. I am working with David Culler as a member of the LoCal research group, and I sit in the AMP Lab.
My research interests are in machine learning and data mining. I am particularly interested in applications that relate to energy and sustainability.
As an undergraduate I attended the University of Virginia, receiving a double-major in math/statistics and computer science. My thesis advisor was Kamin Whitehouse, and together we worked on developing thermal models of buildings in order to enable more efficient control.
