ROS 3D Contest

In 2011 we participated to the ROS 3D Contest with an entry entitled Person Tracking and Reconstruction from a Mobile Base with a 7 DOF Manipulator (this long name had been chosen at 5am, minutes before the submission was over!). We scored a 4th place (and 500$) by having a Kinect camera, mounted on a mobile manipulator, circle a person to create a 3D model. This is illustrated in the video below (again recorded shortly before the sun was up).

BBC Visit of the ISRC

In 2011 the Cognitive Robotics Team had generated enough buzz that the BBC decided to pay us a visit. The video below is nicely done, apart from a very confused “me” being interviewed without notice.

Rubik’s Cube

My first application with the PR2 has been to make it solve a Rubik’s cube. It didn’t seem a big deal at the time, but people loved it. Willow Garage had a nice post, and so did IEEE Spectrum and Forbes. The nicest one however came from Singularity Hub. The PR2 made a nice show at IROS 2011, as illustrated below at 2:13.
