Hi, I am a volunteer GSI for http://robotics.eecs.berkeley.edu/~wlr/226F06/index.htm, Fall 2006 semester.\n\nOffice Hour: Friday 2:00pm - 3:30pm @ Cory 258\n\nThis additional office hour is focused on in-depth understanding about random processes through intensive/interactive/personalized discussion. You are encouraged to bring any general question. \n\nFollowings are morals for this office hour:\n*Bring your //any// questions. \n*We will not try to entice GSI to reveal homework solution.\n*However, we can discuss the background understanding of homework problems. In fact, this is more helpful than just earning some hints about the specific homework problems.\n*Also, we will attempt to build\n**Clear concepts of random process stuff\n**Capability to grasp the 'physical meaning' of complicated math equations\n**Capability to build up nice-looking (and correct) formulae without going through long, difficult, likely to make mistakes, derivation process.\n\nIsn't it COOL? Yes. With this goal in mind, we will teach //each other// in this additional office hours. See you then.\n----\n----\n----

Current Research\n\n<<<\nReliable Relaying (2008-9) (Invited paper at www.gamenets.org)\nA coordination game with uncertain knowledge. The best network performance is achieved with a cooperatively coordinated operations of relays. The small time scale of link quality fluctuations invalidates relays' effort in exchanging information across the network. With limited knowledge, we want to achieve the most reliable yet best performance. How would you do? We present two impossibility facts and one possibility fact about bounded/imprecise knowledge and common knowledge about inconsistent beliefs. See paper/ReliableRelaying_CameraReady.pdf.\n<<<\n<<<\nSacrifice is helpful (2008) (still working on)\nIt is an interesting result to show that overall network performance is enhanced when a fraction of packets are intentionally discarded under a certain criterion.\n<<<\n<<<\nA Revenue Enhancing Stackelberg Game for Owners in Opportunistic Spectrum Access (2008) \nCan we make a win-win game for spectrum owners, primary users and secondary users at the same time? Cognitive radio may provide a technology solution, but it itself does not lead to a market. In this research we provide a justifiable pricing model for this market to realize the economic incentives for this technology market. Paper showed in http://www.ieee-dyspan.org/2008/.\n<<<\n<<<\nWiFlex: Multi-channel Distributed MAC Protocol (2006-2008)\nAmong ample kinds of wireless technologies, can we build a 'Unified filed Theory' for it? Can we make heterogeneous devices to communicate with each other? In this research, we present this question with fundamental issues such as Coordination, Communication and Fairness/Priority Access. We build Asynchronous Split Phase approach and present adorable simulation results. http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~porce/paper/wiflex_wcnc2008.pdf. Jiwoong Lee is with UC Berkeley Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as a Ph.D. candidate. He received B.S. and M.S degrees in the same field in 1998 and 2000 respectively from <<wikipedia KAIST>>(Korea Advanced Institute of Science of Technology). From 2000 to 2005, he was a senior research engineer at <<wikipedia 'Korea Telecom Freetel'>> that is a nationwide cellular operator, where he was awarded the Best Employee Award in 2002.\n\nHis primary research interest is Game Theory and Decision Making in Communication Networks. Also it covers the Distributed Control over Inconsistent Time Scale. He is advised from http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~wlr, who has excellent intuitions and firm mathematical understanding over communication networks.\n\nThe current active research projects include Reliable Relaying with Uncertain Knowledge, ~ZeroCollision, ~WiFlex, Reliable Relaying, Sacrifice is Helpful, Economics for Cognitive Radios. He was awarded the Best Algorithm Award from UC Berkeley Technology Breakthrough Competition in 2006 with ~ZeroCollision. In the past, he also authored seven ~Internet-Drafts, providing contribution to the early formulation of Explicit Multicast efforts. \n\n\nI plan to graduate in Mar 2010 or around. \n\n----\n----\n----
