Emeritus ?

The definition of emeritus has to do more with “honorary” than it does with “merit”.  It is a kind of retirement with a flexible, adaptable status that allows one to explore a number of options ranging from continuing fairly normal professorial activities, to reinventing oneself.  The latter is increasingly appealing.

                      Grampa and Kate

Going beyond my service work at Berkeley and my consulting activities in the private sector,  I have been able to expand my travels and other interests since 2003 when I retired from the regular faculty.  Road and mountain bicycling, windsurfing, motorcycling, hiking, and backcountry skiing, take up much of my free time, but my interest in vintage cars and music boxes, while largely dormant at the moment, is still there.  And when I get old I intend to play golf again.

In a private web site which is reached by combining the two lines below (deliberately separated here to prevent web crawlers and other automatons from finding the site) I expand on non-university activities, including my recent bicycle trip to Missouri.

Just combine the two lines below with no spaces to get the URL for private web site.
