Supposely true, heard on NPR's Morning Edition on Jan. 11, 1993:

In a series on rising health care costs, a man was being interviewed about his visit to a hospital emergency room. A chicken bone had become lodged in his throat or windpipe.

The bone was removed in a visit lasting about 2 hours.

The bill was over $3,000.

But, the best part was,

``They sent the chicken bone to a lab. It came back 'chicken bone'.''
