Kannan Ramchandran received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1993. He is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of California at Berkeley. His research group is the BASiCS group. Between 1993 and 1999 he was on the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Coordinated Science Lab (CSL) at UIUC and a full-time Beckman Institute faculty member in the Image Formation and Processing Group. His fields of professional interest are communication and information theory, networking, image and video compression and modeling, multirate and multiresolutional signal processing, wavelets, robust image and video communication, packet video, and fast algorithms for signal and image processing.
