Logistics

  • Instructor: Laurent El Ghaoui

  • Teaching assistant: Vu Pham, office hours: Fri 4-5, 450 SDH.

  • Material: We'll primarily use Boyd and Vandenberghe's book on convex optimization, and related material. Lots of background material (eg, on linear algebra) can be found on the hyper-textbook here. See other references here.

  • Homeworks: there will be about 5 Homeworks, which require the use of Matlab.

  • Exams: There is a midterms (on Oct. 7), no final and a project.

  • Project: See the projects page. For now, consider teaming up in groups of three to four (maximum).

  • Grading: 40% homework, midterms (30%), project (30%).

  • Software: for the homeworks, we will use the free matlab toolbox called CVX.
