Deutschland und Österreich, 2006

Overall, I guess the trip was okay, though I didn't get to try as many different kinds of sausage as I would've liked. And I couldn't find any rauchbier, even though Bamberg is only like 100 miles from Munich.

Salzburg

Mozartplatz, Salzburg, Austria. In Amadeus, Mozart had a preoccupation with farts. In contrast, the town has an obsession with balls, from the balls around town to the Mozartkugel in every store.

View from the Salzburg fortress. I'm assuming the view is much better when there isn't a blizzard.

World's most uncomfortable underwear. At least it doesn't ride up the back.

München

Marienplatz. I'm not sure why this place is so famous. There's a little puppet show or something on the green balcony, but that's about it.

The area around Residenz seemed sort of nice, if only because it reminded me of Italy.

Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale castle that was built during the age of the telephone, and inspiration for the Disney castle. As if Disney could come up with anything original.

Just like Disneyland, the castle was set up as some sort of amusement park ride, with some complex number system dictating when you get to go in. I for one, was not amused.

Schloss Hohenschwangau, also known as old Schwanstein.

I wish I'd brought my skis. More accurately, I wish I'd own a pair of skis.
