This spreadsheet below is a survey of iOS, Android, and Symbian 9.x malware
that spread in the wild from January 2009 to June 2011. We report the
behavior of the pieces of malware, their permissions (for Android), and their
certificate types (for Symbian). We only list
malware. Malware
spreads by
tricking users or leveraging a software vulnerability. Malware is different from personal spyware (software for
spouses to spy on each other) or grayware (legitimate applications that
are excessively enthusiastic about collecting user data), although they
are often lumped together in news reports.
Our
paper with a detailed analysis and discussion will appear
at the CCS Workshop on Security and Privacy in Mobile Devices (SPSM) in
October 2011.
