Professor
Pravin Varaiya has won the Control Heritage Award for 2001, IEEE
Field Award for the Control Systems Society for his contributions
to "stochastic control and differential games" and applications
to "intelligent transportation systems." Professor
Christos Papadimitriou has been elected as an ACM Fellow for "outstandingly
novel and fundamental contributions to computer science and especially
to complexity theory, database theory and combinatorial optimization." Professors
Alan Smith and Elwyn Berlekamp have been elected fellows by the American
Association for the Advancement in Science. Dr. Smith was honored
for "distinguished contributions to the performance analysis of
computer systems, particularly the design of memory hierarchies and
cache memory design." Dr. Berlekamp was distinguished for "contributions
to algebraic coding theory and mathmatical theory of combinatorial games." James
Demmel and Avideh Zahkor, EECS Professors, recognized as IEEE Fellows Berkeley
