IEEE-754 Test Vector

This tape contains a test suite for binary floating-point arithmetic conforming to IEEE Standard 754 (1985). The information on the tape provides thousands of combinations of operands, operators, and results to test whether a computer's floating-point addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, comparison, square root, remainder, and several other operations conform to IEEE Standard 754.

The tape contains the operands, operators, and results and also what is almost a Pascal program to read, interpret, test, and compare them. The tape also contains an explanation, a chapter from Jerome T. Coonen's doctoral thesis, "Contributions to a Proposed Standard Binary Floating-Point Arithmetic." A hardcopy of the chapter is included with the tape.

Documentation Included with the Program:

  1. Chapter 10 of Jerome Coonen's Ph.D. thesis, "Contributions to a Proposed Standard for Binary Floating-Point Arithmetic" (UC Berkeley, 1984). Available separately for $5.00. The User's Guide and Installation Notes are contained within Chapter 10.

Additional Documentation Available:

  1. IEEE Standard 754-1985, "Floating-Point Arithmetic Micro Processor," order number SH10116. To order over the telephone, call: 1-800-678-4333 or send $29.00 plus $4.00 for shipping and handling to:
