EE Student Organizations

Electrical Engineering Graduate Student Association (EEGSA)

The Electrical Engineering Graduate Student Association is a service and social organization within the EECS department at U.C. Berkeley. They organize prelim review sessions, provide peer advising services, and assist with new student orientation. In an effort to promote communication and camaraderie within the department, they sponsor social activities such as the weekly coffee hours. EEGSA also sponsors occasional ice cream socials, wine and cheese parties, and dances.

Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society (TBP)

Tau Beta Pi is the oldest national honors engineering society in the country, as well as one of the most nationally recognized. TBP stresses scholarship, personal character, and services to the profession, community, and college. Every semester, it invites the top fifth of Seniors and the top eighth of Juniors from all engineering majors to join.

Computer Science Graduate Student Association (CSGSA)

The Computer Science Graduate Student Association is a student-run organization serving the CS graduate student community at Berkeley. The CSGSA sponsors orientation programs for new students, a number of academic services and a variety of social events throughout the year.

Computer Science Undergraduate Association (CSUA)

The CSUA is dedicated to representing the undergraduate computer science student body and associates to the University of California at Berkeley, its representatives, and other related organizations; to provide a forum for the social and academic interaction of persons involved in computer science; to promote knowledge in the computer sciences; and to raise funds for the accomplishment of these goals.

UC Berkeley Macintosh Users Group (UCBMUG)

The purpose of UCBMUG is to support and discuss the Macintosh Platform with those living in the Berkeley, CA area, especially and primarily those students of Cal. To provide software updates, discussions, information regarding internships and tours of Apple facilities.

Open Computing Facility (OCF)

The OCF is a student-run, student-funded organization and is dedicated to free computing for all University of California at Berkeley students, faculty, and staff. The mission of the OCF is to provide an environment where no member of Berkeley's campus community is denied the computer resources he or she seeks, to appeal to all members of the Berkeley campus community with unsatisfied computing needs, and to provide a place for those interested in computing so that they can fully explore that interest.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE)

Upsilon Pi Epsilon is the first and only international honor society for the Computing Sciences. The Nu chapter of UPE at UC Berkeley was founded in 1995 and continues to serve Computer Science undergraduate students in the College of Letters and Science. We are committed in promoting more social interaction and communication, and relationship between undergraduate students, faculty, and industry in the computing discipline. We identify with academic excellence, and work to assist undergraduate computer science students with opportunities which are otherwise not available in the curriculum. We offer assistance in lower-division labs, luncheons with faculty members, info-sessions from the industry, and a variety of social events every semester.

Association of Women in EECS (AWE)

AWE is an organization for women undergraduate students in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of California in Berkeley. They provide information about resources such as fellowships for women and minorities, mailing lists, and useful net links.

Berkeley EECS Research Journal (BERJ)

To allow Berkeley undergraduates in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) to publish their research work and share that work with others, without having to be clamped down by strict regulations of major research publications. Our group will allow students, such as those who have not done any research work, to explore research projects to get a sampling of what research is like.

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN)

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences honor society. The Berkeley (Mu) chapter is among the most active engineering societies at Cal, providing academic services to fellow undergraduates. We offer free tutoring in both 345 Soda and 290 Cory from 10am to 4pm Mondays through Fridays. Past EE and CS midterms from the HKN exam file may be checked out overnight, and are also available online. In addition, HKN provides other services like infosessions, a career fair, donut runs, general EECS student body activities, EECS beanies and t-shirts, course surveys, faculty-student mixers, midterm study sessions, peer advising, as well as regularly participating in community-service events. Comprehensive EECS course survey results are posted online at the HKN Mu chapter website and are made available to all students, faculty, and staff. Membership in Eta Kappa Nu is extended to the top fourth of the junior class and the top third of the senior class in the EECS department.

Women in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (WICSE)

WICSE is an organization for all women graduate students in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of California in Berkeley. They meet every Friday at noon for lunch, publish a weekly electronic newsletter, and maintain several ongoing projects such as running a Big Sister program for new women grad students, developing a parental leave policy for grad students, and sponsoring lecture series.

Berkeley Engineers and Mentors (BEAM)

Berkeley Engineers and Mentors (beam) is a new organization created to provide students at low-income schools and afterschool programs with engaging engineering activities that stimulate their interest in pursuing careers in math, science and engineering. UC Berkeley students volunteer their time mentoring younger students, learning about science education, and building relationships with their mentees.

Berkeley's Undergraduate Science Research Journal. Every semester, our undergraduate staff publishes independent research done by undergraduates at UC Berkeley, interviews with faculty members, reviews of recent scientific publications (books), and articles on current issues in science. All research papers are faculty-reviewed, and all interviews are conducted by the staff.

Black Engineering and Science Students Association (BESSA)

The Black Engineering and Science Students Association (BESSA) is a student run, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide academic, social, and community support. The organization provides programs that encourage academic excellence, personal growth, and a commitment to the minority community.

Black Graduate Engineering and Science Students Association (BGESS)

BGESS was founded in 1987 by a group of African American graduate students enrolled at U.C. Berkeley. BGESS has dedicated itself to the nurturing of academic and social support systems for students of African Heritage, whose contributions to the fields of Graduate Engineering and Physical Sciences have been historically underrepresented or denied. They provide information about applying to Cal, historic contributions by Black scientists and engineers, and the Future Black Faculty Database.

Business and Technology Association (BTA)

Formerly the Computer Science and Business Association (CSBA), the Business and Technology Association promotes the ideal of bringing business and technology together. Some events and projects include the Entrepreneur Forum, the Berkeley Book Exchange (now known as ComeGetUsed), BTA Rentals, our annual Technology Exposition, and much more. The group is continuously looking for new members and ideas that explore the opportunities of business and technology in the modern world.

California Engineer (CalEng)

California Engineer is the student journal of the UC Engineering colleges. They publish a quarterly journal dedicated to articles of various engineering interests. All articles are written by undergraduate engineers in the University of California system.

Computer Literacy 4 Kids (CL4K)

Computer Literacy 4 Kids (CL4K), Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in the year 2000 to provide donated computers, hardware, and software directly to nearby high schools and middle schools. Donated money is used to purchase computer-related items needed by area youths.

Engineering Society @ CAL (ESC)

The objective of ESC is to provide an opportunity for engineering and technology/science students to become acquainted and to practice working together effectively, to demonstrate the value of diversity, to promote a spirit of congeniality among students, and to provide friendly contact with the faculty and with the engineering profession. ESC has corporate sponsorship and offers scholarships. Members must be currently registered students. Meetings are held at least once a semester and are open to everyone.

Engineers Joint Council (EJC)

The Engineers' Joint Council is a group which serves as the representative of all engineering students and most importantly, a liaison between the students and the College of Engineering. They provide organizational and financial support for their member societies, facilitate communication between students and the College administration, and coordinate efforts and events involving all the students of the College of Engineering.

Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES)

The Society of Hispanic Engineers and Scientists fosters career opportunities for Hispanic engineering and science students through contacts with representatives of government and industry. They host a career fair and an intramural soccer team, and provide information about the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Region 1.

International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE)

Founded in 1948, the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience is an international network that coordinates on-the-job training for students in technical fields such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, natural/physical sciences, architecture, and agricultural science. IAESTE United States has represented IAESTE in America since 1950.

Latino/a Association for Graduate Students in Engineering and Science (LAGSES)

LAGSES was founded in 1994 to provide solidarity and support for incoming and continuing Latino graduate students at the University of California at Berkeley. Pilipino Association of Scientists, Architects, and Engineers (PASAE)

The Pilipino Association of Scientists, Architects, and Engineers is a student organization at the University of California, Berkeley, dedicated to serving the interests of Pilipinos in technical fields. Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

Our Chapter Goals are to recruit underrepresented undergraduate students into graduate school and careers in the sciences, and to retain underrepresented graduate students in graduate programs in the sciences.

Society of Automotive Engineering (FSAE)

The members of FSAE design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style race cars against other colleges from around the world. The FSAE set of rules is in place to test our engineering skills and creativity. During the competition the vehicles are judged in four different categories: static inspection, engineering design, solo performance trials, and high-performance track endurance. The event takes place at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan every second week in May.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

SWE is composed of over 150 women and men, undergraduates and graduates, from engineering, math, and science fields. They have career guidance programs, social activities, community service, workshops, and outreach programs. They usually offer new events every semester.

Student Pugwash (SPUSA)

Student Pugwash USA is a student-run, academic organization which examines the moral and ethical issues that face students and professionals in technical disciplines. The focus is on educational activities, such as seminars, colloquia, classes and informal discussions. Regular meetings are held. All undergrad and grad students in any field are welcome.

Theta Tau Epsilon Engineering Fraternity

The purpose of Theta Tau is to develop and maintain a high standard of professional interest among its members, and to unite them in a strong bond of fraternal fellowship. We do this by holding many social, professional development, and community service events each semester.
