CS Student Progress Review Instructions

Goals

Ultimately, we hope this progress review will help graduate students achieve their degree goals in a timely manner, aid productivity, and improve student retention.

Instructions

Students: (DUE FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2008)

  1. Please fill out the "Student Progress Questionnaire."

  2. Schedule a 20 minute, one-on-one progress review meeting with your advisor before the deadline. Take the "Student Progress Review", your completed "Student Progress Questionnaire" and "Milestones Agreement" forms to the meeting with your advisor. Complete and sign the "Student Progress Review" form during this meeting. Signing this form indicates agreement on the appraisal. Otherwise, we request that you attach an extra sheet of paper on which you list the points of disagreement.

  3. After the review meeting, return all completed forms ("Student Progress Questionnaire", "Student Progress Review" and "Milestones Agreement") to the Grad Assistant in 449 Soda. These forms will be included in your student file.

Faculty: (DUE FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2008)

  1. Please hold a 20 minute, one-on-one meeting with each of your advisees to discuss his or her progress. Review your advisee's completed "Student Progress Questionnaire." Complete and sign the "Student Progress Review" form during this meeting. You may choose to use your annotated "Graduate Student Skills Lists" as a guideline or starting point for your discussion. Signing the “Student Progress Review” form indicates agreement on the appraisal. If the student is in disagreement of the appraisal and does not sign the form, he or she should attach an extra paper listing the points of disagreement. Your student will return all completed forms to the Grad Office.

  2. After meeting with all of your students, log in and record a letter type for each of them in the EECS Grad Student Review Database using your CalNet ID and passphrase. You may also add a personal note (up to 1000 characters) to the letters in the note section.

  3. Attend the Grad Student Review meeting.

After the full faculty review meeting, each student will receive a feedback letter from the faculty as a whole. These letters will be delivered to grad student mailboxes.
