Changing Passwords

A refresher list of all of the places you may need to change your password.
Windows (EECS Domain)
From Your Office PC

Press
alt + ctrl + del - Select the Change Password button
From WINTERM (off campus)
-
From winterm, go to
Start -> Windows Security -> Change a password...
CalNet (ACG databases, campus access, and CalMail)
- Go to the CalNet website: http://calnet.berkeley.edu
- On the left-side column, in the top box, click the 3rd item down: Know CalNet Passphrase? Change it.
Oracle Calendar (CalAgenda)
- Open the Oracle Calendar client application, log in, and pull down the Tools menu
- Select Change Password
EECS LDAP (EECS network database and some other web-authenticated services)
- Visit the Help Desk. I've been told a new website to change this password will be set up shortly.
Unix
Password on login.eecs ("mammoth" NIS domain)

Use SSH to connect to
passwd.eecs.berkeley.edu -
When it asks "change your password?," enter
yand press enter - Follow the instructions
Passwords on buffy.eecs and walldisplays
- Log into the server

Type:
passwd - Follow the instructions
- Be sure to do this for every server (buffy, walldisplay1, walldisplay2)
- Note: mint uses the Windows Active Directory password, so changing your Windows password will automatically change your mint password.
Pidgin (Instant Messaging)
- The EECS jabber server now seems to use the Windows AD or NIS domain unix password, so this will automatically get set when you change the others.
Password Tips
- should be different from your last password
- should be at least 9-12 characters long

should contain at least 3 character classes:
- upper-case letters (A through Z)
- lower-case letters (a through z)
- numbers (0 through 9)
- symbols excluding spaces and @ symbols
- should contain no more than 3 letters which can be sequentially found in the dictionary. (i.e. cat is acceptable but corn is not.)
- should not contain your first name, middle name, last name, login name, or calnet id
