Delay Analysis of Intervehicle Communication on UAV Platform

Communication delay is an important factor to consider in multi-agent control problems. We propose a stochastic approach towards analyzing communication delays in a network of UAVs communicating via the IEEE 802.11g standard. The communication model presented here is unique in its integrated view of packet collision, packet error, channel propagation, and transmission delay. The model is validated using simulation against expected network behaviors. Based upon this delay analysis, optimization algorithms are presented for selecting the optimum transmission mode under varying delay constraints.
