Nationally and Independently Administered Scholarships

CRA Outstanding Graduates Award

Deadline: October

A cash prize will be awarded to each of two undergraduate students, one female and one male, who are majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or an equivalent program. A number of other outstanding candidates will be recognized with Honorable Mention. The awards will be presented at one of the major computing research conferences sponsored by CRA, ACM, the IEEE Computer Society, SIAM, AAAI, or USENIX. The two first-prize winners will receive financial assistance toward their travel to the conference. CRA encourages home departments to provide similar assistance to other students who are recognized.

Eligibility:

  • Nomination by EECS Department
  • Preference Given to Seniors
  • Demonstration of Significant Research Contributions
  • Demonstration of Service to Community
  • Enrollment at US or Canadian College or University

GOOGLE Anita Borg Scholarship

Google Inc. applauds the student scientists who achieve academic excellence and the Computer Science departments that motivate them. To acknowledge the efforts of these students and their schools, Google Inc. is pleased to offer the the Anita Borg Scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • Be entering their senior year of undergraduate study or be enrolled in a graduate program in 2006 - 2007 at a university in the United States
  • Be Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field majors.
  • Be enrolled in full-time study in 2006 - 2007
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in their current program

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Deadline: October

The average award is $1000 for four-year college students.

General Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for an HSF scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be of Hispanic heritage: persons descended from Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central, South American or other Spanish Cultures
  • Be a U.S. Citizen OR legal permanent resident
  • Be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited and Title IV-eligible institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam
  • Must apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA
  • Be completing your first undergraduate or graduate degree Additional restrictions or requirements may apply to specific HSF-administered scholarship programs. Please check carefully the program guidelines for each program to which you plan to apply.

Microsoft Undergraduate Scholarships

Deadline: January

Microsoft offers four types of technical scholarships to current undergraduate students: General Scholarship, Women's Scholarship, Underrepresented Minority Scholarship, and Scholarships for Students with Disabilities.Microsoft will review all applications and select final candidates on the basis of eligibility, quality of application, displayed interest in the software industry, commitment to leadership, and financial need. All applicants will be notified of their status via email on March 15, 2006. Students from groups currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees are encouraged to apply. While all candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility described below may do so, a large majority of our scholarships will be awarded to female students, underrepresented minority students, and students with disabilities. Minority applicants must be a member of one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African-American, Hispanic, or Native American.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at a college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time the application is submitted
  • Students must be enrolled full-time and be making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science or computer engineering. Students in a related technical discipline, such as electrical engineering, math, or physics, with a demonstrated interest in computer science, may also apply.
  • Because the scholarship is merit based, the student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0, or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 5.0.

Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program

The Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship offers an Undergraduate and Graduate scholarship annually to minority students enrolled in one of the technical sciences or engineering disciplines:
