The EECS department, UC Berkeley, will celebrate Computer Science Education Week with a special one-day program for local high school teachers and their students on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Faculty, current students and staff in UC Berkeley's computer science community have planned very exciting activities, to inform and inspire all participants about the possibilities of computing for students and teachers. After a personal welcome by our Associate Dean, Professor Fiona Doyle, the day will include demonstrations, and interactive labs.

Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek), designated by the U.S. House of Representatives as the week of Grace Murray Hopper’s birthday, recognizes the transformative role of computing and the need to bolster computer science at all educational levels. The goals of CSEdWeek are to:

This year's CS Education Day @ Cal was a complete success with over 275 students from high schools all over the Bay Area participating. The day’s activities were ideally suited for students who are at an introductory programming level and did not attend the previous year’s event (since many of the activities are identical to those we offered last year).

Program

8:30 - 9:00am:  Arrival & registration

All teachers are responsible for providing transportation for their students. Those arriving by BART will be met by UC Berkeley staff and students and escorted to the North side of campus ending at Sibley Auditorium.

Please plan to arrive at the BART station no later than 8:30am. Those coming directly to campus should plan to arrive at 8:30am.


9:30am:  Plenary Session

11:30am:  Lunch

Noon - 2:30pm:  Afternoon Hands-On Interactive Sessions
