The Berkeley EECS Affiliates Program (BEECSA)

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences invites corporations and other institutions with substantial activities in electronics and computer science-related research to become Berkeley Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Affiliates (BEECSA).  The BEECSA Program provides continuing support for research in electrical engineering and computer science areas such as networking, multimedia, software design, microfabrication technologies, microelectronic devices and circuits, communications, computation, signal processing, wireless systems, control, and many others.

Current BEECSA Members

BEECSA affiliation confers the following privileges and are also full members of the EECS Industrial Liaison Program (ILP):

  • Visiting Industrial Fellow (VIF) opportunities
Visiting Industrial Fellows may be nominated by individual BEECSA Affiliate companies. Please visit our EECS Visiting Industrial Fellow Program website. VIF privileges include:

    • participation by the VIF on a Department research team or group; new research programs of mutual interest are also encouraged
    • participation in EECS Department seminars and colloquia
    • may audit any course in EECS, with instructor’s permission
    • computer services with an individual account, and network access if desired
    • shared administrative support and telephone service
    • office space at or above the level that is afforded to a senior graduate student in a research group
    • Intellectual property rights are handled subject to “UC Patent Policy.”

The Department accepts nominees in a way that insures balance across research areas and equitable visitation opportunities for all Fellows.   Current Visiting Industrial Fellows

  • BEARS (Berkeley EECS Annual Research Symposium)
Each year in February IRO produces a day-long research conference—BEARS—featuring a variety of informative talks and laboratory open houses offered by distinguished faculty members and advanced graduate students.   By giving industry members a look at the very latest exciting work being carried out in electrical engineering and in computer sciences, BEARS promotes strong bonds between industry and the department.

  • Infosessions
ILP members have the exclusive privilege of hosting free information sessions (Infosessions) in the department with support from IRO.  IRO staff handle room arrangements, advertise via email and flyers posted in Cory and Soda Halls, arrange parking for recruiters, place catering orders (which are billed separately to the BEECSA member), arrange audio-visual coverage for the Infosession, collect student résumés, and set up rooms for interviews with candidates in Cory or Soda Hall.

  • Participation in the annual Internship Open House (registration fee is included)

  • Priority invitation to the EECS Career Fair (does not include registration fee)

  • Graduate Student Résumé Directory
IRO produces an annual directory of graduate student résumés to aid recruitment efforts of member companies.

  • Invitation to attend EECS seminars
Employees of member companies may attend EECS seminars, which are listed on our web page at http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu.

How to become a BEECSA member

BEECSA Affiliation entails a minimum annual gift to the Department of $125,000 in support of research and instruction.  Of that amount, $25,000 will be devoted to departmental support of new faculty, new program initiatives, shared facilities and equipment, dissemination of results, and the like.  The balance of the annual gift will support research projects of relevance and interest to the Affiliate. Check individual EECS Department faculty web pages to determine which faculty member you would like to work with.
