GLITTER.2

GLITTER.2 is a two-layer channel routing and compaction tool for the layout of integrated circuits. It consists of the gridless channel router GLITTER and a newly developed channel spacer NUTCRACKER. The gridless approach can take advantage of different design rules on the two routing layers. No columns or tracks are generated; only the wire width, spacing, and contact size are considered. Terminals can be located at arbitrary positions on the channel boundary. Nets may have different wire widths to satisfy special design needs.

GLITTER.2 is also capable of handling channels with irregular boundaries and cyclic constraints. The channel-routing result is compacted by the channel spacer NUTCRACKER. Jogs will be generated automatically, if necessary, to minimize the channel height during the compaction. The input format of GLITTER.2 is similar to that of BBL (Berkeley Building-Block Layout system). The routing output will be generated in the CIF format.
