The UC Berkeley Distinguished Lecture with Michael Stonebraker, Eugene Wong, Jerry Held, and Peter Kreps, marks the 30th anniversary of the publication of the paper: "The Design and Implementation of INGRES". This paper, by Michael Stonebraker, Eugene Wong, Peter Kreps and Jerry Held, is one of the most important in database system research. It documents the design and implementation of an innovative relational database system, INGRES, one of the first relational DBMSs to be implemented. The INGRES project was prolific in ideas, in students who then founded companies, and in contributions to the field.

Following the lecture there will be a reception in the Wozniak Room of Soda Hall. The reception will be sponsored by Ingres Corporation. At the reception we will announce the Michael R. Stonebraker and Eugene Wong Endowment Fund for the support of student research. We would like to announce a total at that time; please donate through the Michael Stonebraker and Eugene Wong Endowment Fund online form or contact Karen Rhodes, <klrhodes@coe.berkeley.edu>. The first 20 people who donate $1,000 or more will receive parking passes. Registration for the reception is required.
