EECS Introduction to PINE

Setting Your Printer

Before you start, you should know the command you usually type from UNIX to send text files to your printer (e.g. "lpr -Plws384" or "lp -dlws384"). If you are using PINE on hera and sending your job to an HP printer, you should use enscript (e.g. "enscript -Plws384").

  1. Type "m" to go to the Main Menu if you are not already there.

  2. Type "s" to select the Setup Menu and at the prompt that says:

Choose a setup task from the menu below:

    Type "p" for "[Printer]."

  3. You will now be in the Printer Setup Menu.

  4. Press the "down arrow" key (about 3 times) until you have highlighted "Personally selected print command." Then type: "a" to "Add Printer."

  5. A prompt will appear which says:

Enter name of printer to be added:

Type your Return key to accept this without changing it.

  6. A second prompt will appear which says:

        Enter command for printer:

Enter your printing command (see boldface comment at top of page).
    For example: lpr -Plws384

Your Printer Setup Configuration file will now register the changes.

  7. With your cursor still highlighting "Personally selected print command," type "s" to Select it as your default printer.

  8. Type "e" to Exit Configuration. You will then be asked the following question:

        Commit changes?

    Type "y" for Yes.

  9. Open a mail message and print it by typing "y." If this doesn't work, note the error message you get and contact your system administrator.
