To get started, go to your home directory in the UNIX window
from which you usually read mail, and type: pine
A directory called "mail" will automatically be created in your UNIX home directory. All of your pine mail files will live there.
Use your arrow buttons to navigate in pine. Do not use your mouse.
To find out more about any option or feature in pine, use your
arrow keys to position the cursor on the item in question and
type a question mark: ?
All pine windows offer a menu of choices regarding what to do next at the bottom of each screen. Feel free to experiment with these choices. You may select a menu item by typing in the letter corresponding to your choice. Although they are shown to you in upper case letters, you may type them in lower-case as well. A ^ (caret) before a letter means you should hold down the Control (Ctrl) key while typing the letter.
To select an item you're on (if that is appropriate) press your "Return" or "Enter" key.
To set customized options and features, see Configuring PINE
A "folder" is a file of mail messages in your "mail" directory.
To access previously created mail message files or folders in PINE, move the files and folders into your "mail" directory and view them in PINE by typing "L". In order for a previously saved mail message to be viewed in PINE, all message headers must be intact.
