Biography

He received his B.S. in Computer and Information Science, Univ. of Massachusetts, Amherst, 1983, M.S.E., Wang Institute of Graduate Studies, 1986, Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, 1993. From 1983-85 he worked as a software engineer of database systems at Wang Laboratories, Lowell, MA, 1986-89 he was a member of the technical staff of Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp (MCC), Austin, TX, 1989-1993, research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1994-1997 (summers) Visiting Professor INRIA, Rocquencourt, France, 2003, Visiting Professor University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, 2003, PRiSM Laboratory, University of Versailles, 2003, Executive-in-Residence, The Mayfield Fund, 2004-2005, Visiting Faculty Researcher, Intel Research, Berkeley, 2006-Present, Founder and CTO, Amalgamated Insight, Inc.

In 2005 he was named ACM Fellow, 2004, received ACM SIGMOD "Test of Time" Award, Papers selected for "Best of" special issues: SIGMOD 2003, VLDB 2002, Mobile Data Management 2003, IEEE RIDE 2002, 1999, 2002, 2003 IBM Faculty Partnership Award, 2002 ACM Service Award, for PC Chair of SIGMOD 2002, 2000 Okawa Foundation Research Grant, 2000 Siemens Faculty Development Award, 1995 National Science Foundation CAREER Award, 1994 Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, University of Maryland, 1994 National Science Foundation Research Initiation Award, 1993 Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award, Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison.
