A. CONFERENCES -------------- 1. ISCAS'97, June 9 - 12, 1997, Hong Kong: Peter Kennedy and Maciej Ogorzalek organized a special session on ``Applications of Chaos in Communications.'' 2. NDES'97, June 26 - 27, 1997, Moscow, Russia This was the fifth international specialist workshop on Nonlinear Dynamics of Electronic Systems. 3. MWCAS'97: No information available 4. ECCTD'97, August 30 - September 3, 1997, Budapest, Hungary: Two special sessions were devoted to nonlinear dynamics: ``Nonlinear analyst's tools for practical circuits and systems,'' organized by Maciej Ogorzalek, and ``Spread spectrum communications and chaos'' organized by Peter Kennedy and Geza Kolumban. 5. NOLTA'97, November 29 - December 3, 1997, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hawaii: More than 300 papers were presented in 58 sessions by over 330 participants from 26 countries at the 1997 International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and its Applications. 6. CNNA'98, April 14-17, 1998, South Bank University, London, England: This was the fifth IEEE International Workshop on Cellular Neural Networks. B. SPECIAL ISSUES ----------------- 1. A special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part I on ``Chaos Synchronization, Control, and Applications,'' edited by Peter Kennedy and Maciej Ogorzalek, appeared in October 1997. 2. A special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Part II on ``Advances in Nonlinear Electronic Circuits,'' edited by Peter Kennedy and Angel Rodriguez-Vazquez, is scheduled to appear in Fall 1998. C. WWW SITE and NEW MAILING LIST -------------------------------- We have created an majordomo list (automatic mailing system) for the NCAS technical committee members and guests. The list is private, can support geographically diverse membership, and the members can subscribe and un-subscribe via e-mail. It also allows for keeping the list archive and/or digest. It currently has 50 subscribing members. Our new email address is: ncastc-ieee@sfu.ca . The NCAS TC WWW page: http://diva.eecs.berkeley.edu/~ljilja/tcncas contains TC news, TC meeting minutes, conference reports, useful information regarding past and future conferences, and links to other sites of interest. D. FORTHCOMING EVENTS ---------------------- 1. IEEE CAS SHORT COURSE: Mike Green and Ljiljana Trajkovic will deliver a short course entitled ``Advanced Circuit Simulation Techniques for Analogue Designers'' in Phuket Island, Thailand, from 30 November to 2 December 1998. WWW site: http://www.ieee-cas.org/html/ace0a.html . 2. CONFERENCES: The following conferences are supported by the NCAS Technical Committee: 1. 1998 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS'98): WWW site: http://iscas.nps.navy.mil/ . 2. The thirteenth International Symposium on the Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems (MTNS'98) will take place in the School of Engineering, University of Padova, Italy, July 6-10, 1998. WWW site: http://www.unipd.it/esterni/wwwmtns/mtns98.html . 3. Building on the success of last year's workshop in Moscow, the sixth international specialist workshop on Nonlinear Dynamics of Electronic Systems (NDES'98) will take place in Budapest, Hungary, on 16-18 July, 1998. For the past four years, this exciting meeting of mathematicians and engineers from eastern and western Europe, the US and Japan, has been supported by the TCNCAS. This year, the workshop will run over three days, with the first day devoted to tutorials on the ``state-of-the-art'' and ``open problems'' in applied nonlinear dynamics. WWW site: http://www.mmt.bme.hu/events/ndes98/ . 4. The 1998 International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and its Applications (NOLTA'98) will take place at LeRegent, Crans-Montana, Switzerland, September 14-17, 1998. WWW site: http://www-kairo.csce.kyushu-u.ac.jp/nolta98/ . 3. SPECIAL ISSUES: 1. The IEEE CAS will publish a Special Issue of the Transactions to honor the memory of Sidney Darlington. Guest Editors are Ernest Kuh and Irwin Sandberg. 2. Special issue of the IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals will be devoted to Nonlinear Theory and its Applications. The issue is devoted, but not restricted, to papers presented at NOLTA'97. Guest Editors are Mitsunori Makino and Toshimichi Saito. ************************************************************************** The next annual meeting of the TCNCAS is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, during lunch break (12:00-14:00) at ISCAS'98 in Monterey, CA. **************************************************************************
